@Samantha, if you did work out that much, chances are you'd be sent to the hospital.

Weight loss, proper weight loss does NOT involve degradation, humiliation and mistreating people. It also does not involve destructive methods that could KILL a person. Ask any reputable nutritionist. They will tell you that weight loss at the rate Kai and the others were loosing it is dangerous and counter-productive. If you can take it all off in a week, you can put it back on in a week, too.

The fact that she wanted to go on this show shows that she knew she needed to loose weight. She stayed because, like others, she viewed it as her last chance. So she put up with it because she justified it. The ends justify the means, as they say.

@L, for the same reason otherwise smart people get stuck in abusive relationships. Because they feel they somehow 'deserve it'.

Kai's story definitely troubles me. I am in agreement with those who feel ALL the blame cannot be placed on the Biggest Loser. That said I'm sure all that she had to endure played a big role. When I first heard of The Biggest Loser I didn't like the sound of the show. It definitely seemed very unhealthy to me to hear about people, even weighing in the 300 and 400's, to be losing that much weight so quickly. Then we started watching the show and we were drawn in and encouraged to see people losing weight and getting healthy. It even motivated me to start making healthier choices. But if they are teaching one thing on camera and then doing these drastic things off camera they are such hypocrites.
I would love to know if there are any updates on this story. This post is almost a year old. When I Googled about about this subject June of 2010 is the most recent I can find. Has anyone ever verified her claims? Has the Biggest Loser or NBC commented on this?

I find your blog informative and intriguing. In my hometown, we had someone that was a contestant and seconded the same thing you said and she gained the weight back after the show.
